The FERROVIA 4.0 project aims to address the technological and market challenges  through facing the global rail sector; by stimulating a collective mobilizing action in a wide range of companies and entities in the R&I System that integrate the Cluster of the Portuguese Railway Platform; and by carrying out innovative activities of industrial research that enhances experimental development and demonstration of new solutions capable of promoting greater operational capacity, sustainability and competitiveness to rail systems.

The overall objective of the project is to develop different components, tools and systems, to be tested on rolling stock and real infrastructure, which are oriented towards: i) The economic and ecological sustainability of the rail system; ii) The reduction of operating and maintenance costs; iii) A reliable information systems support for decision making in asset management, and iv)The creation of security systems able to monitor the infrastructure and trigger alerts and security measures protection / intervention.

This project started in July/2020 and the team intervene and research in the 4 PPS that structure the project: Energy efficiency; Remote condition based monitoring; Security systems; Communications and cybersecurity.
